Eighth International Triennial Calcutta Symposium
Probability & Statistics
December 27-30, 2012
Organised jointly by:
Department of Statistics, University of Calcutta
Calcutta Statistical Association.

Established in 1941, with Prof. P.C. Mahalanobis as Head, the Department of Statistics, Calcutta University, the oldest post-graduate Department in Asia offering a course in statistics, has nurtured and produced a host of eminent statisticians who have distinguished themselves both in India and abroad. The department is regularly visited by illustrious scholars. Over the years, it has established itself as one of the prime departments in India for dissipating knowledge.
Calcutta Statistical Association, an international learned society, closely associated with the Department, was established in 1945 with a view to promote activities related to statistics and its allied fields. The Association publishes an internationally circulated journal of its own besides organizing lectures, seminars, workshops and symposia, keeping a close liaison with the academic activities of the Department.

The Eighth International Triennial Calcutta Symposium following the foot steps of the previous seven symposia held in the years 1991, 1994, 1997, 2000, 2003, 2006 and 2009 plans to bring together researchers engaged in theoretical, methodological, and applied aspects of Statistics and Probability on a common platform to exchange ideas and facilitate discussions. A fairly large number of eminent researchers from all over the world are expected to attend the Symposium. As in the past, a special session on Design of Experiments and Related Combinatorial Aspects will be organized in the memory of Late Prof. Raj Chandra Bose. There will also be poster sessions for students and young researchers.

The official language of the Symposium will be English.
